Louis Burton

Born and bred in the Paris region, this adopted Malouin loves speed, on water as on land. Collaboration, courage and self-sacrifice are at the heart of his values. Beyond competition, he uses his project to raise awareness among new generations of the fragility of the marine environment. Accompanied for the past 13 years by his loyal partner Bureau Vallée and his co-sponsors, Louis achieved a fine 3rd place in the last Vendée Globe.

"Lorient La Base is THE emblematic venue for ocean racing, and the perfect example of the successful conversion of a historic site into a dynamic cultural and economic space."

Louis, what is "The Base" of your objectives for this Retour à La Base?

Get home and party! [laughs] On a more serious note, Retour à La Base will enable me to discover a new transatlantic race, train and, of course, complete my qualification for the Vendée Globe 2024-2025. It's all a personal challenge, where I'm always pushing my physical and psychological limits. But the truth is, I'm never alone, because there's a whole team behind me, as well as the unfailing support of my partners.

What tips do you have for recovering as quickly as possible between these two transatlantic races?

A lot of rest, to recharge my batteries with my family, and at the same time count on my super technical team to get the boat ready to go again. Not forgetting a good dose of grenadine!

This return transatlantic crossing will enable me to transport cocoa by sail rather than by cargo. What do you do for the planet every day?

By definition, to move around using the power of the wind rather than fossil fuels. I'm convinced that ocean racing is also a laboratory for defining tomorrow's more environmentally-friendly shipping.
